The Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has decided that an area at the local market, to the Western outskirts of capital city Malé, be set out for a ‘traveller’s market’ where goods from outer lying islands will be sold.
The Agriculture Ministry has announced that those interested in merchanting at the market – specifically for primary sector goods - can apply through their local island councils or associations.
Those applying must provide an estimate of the amount of goods exported during the month of Ramadan last year.
Merchants can begin filling the stalls at the market at the latest by 27th May, and the area must be cleared by 5th July.
They must ensure that their products are fresh and grown in the Maldives and that the area is tidy after business every day.
