A safe in the Fiyoari island council office of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll has been broken into.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, an official from the council said that they had learnt of the robbery after opening up the office on Saturday morning.

He said that the council office was broken into on Friday night, and that the burglars had stolen all the money inside the safe.

According to the council, MVR 13,000 was stolen from the safe.

While the safe door had been destroyed, the burglars had entered the office after breaking a window.

Officers from the Maldives Police Service’s forensic department are currently active in Fiyoari Island and are investigating the robbery. They are yet to arrest any suspects.
