Less than a week after his resignation from the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM), Shifaq Mufeed has been appointed as a Minister of State.
Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali has confirmed that Mufeed has been appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Mufeed, who was the vice president of HRCM, resigned from the Commission on Thursday.
He was appointed to HRCM in June 2015, after scoring over 75 percent in the selection process. His name was submitted to the Commission by President Abdulla Yameen. He is the former MP for Fuvahmulah constituency, winning the seat under a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket. He has defected from one party to the other since.
