Elections Commission (EC), which has been giving out the results of the Local Council Elections in sessions, has postponed tonight’s session.
While the Commission was to conclude giving out the interim results of the elections on Saturday night- scheduled to start at 9:30- it decided to postpone it to Sunday.
While an official at EC has confirmed the postponement to RaajjeMV, EC tweeted, at 8:28 pm, that the result announcing session has been postponed. The session is now scheduled for 9:30 am on Sunday.
The Local Council Election was held last Saturday, after being postponed thrice, and the Commission started announcing the interim results on Tuesday.
EC member Ahmed Akram had previously assured that the Commission will conclude giving out the preliminary results by Saturday (May 13), with the results of 21 constituencies yet to announced.
Responding to the public’s criticism over the delay in announcing the results, Akram had said “results were announced after nine days during the last council elections, being able to finish within a week is a win”.
A total of 1497 candidates contested in the Local Council Elections 2017. There were 422 ballot boxes placed across the country, and Sri Lanka; and 431,939 ballot papers were printed for 255,987 eligible voters.
