The Maldives Architect Association (MAA) has held an election for the first time to appoint its council.
The voting was held at the premises of the Maldives National University’s faculty for Islamic studies.
13 candidates had contested for the six-member council.
Members of the association took the secret ballots from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday.
Muhuthaz Shafeeg, a member of the current council, said that the voting process was introduced in order to provide more representation for the association’s members, which comprises of 75 members.
“The MAA aims to broaden the scope of the architecture industry in this country, and for this purpose we do provide consultancy to various ventures in the private and public sectors, including the government” Shafeeg added.
MAA has membership opportunities for students of architecture as well as professionals. A ‘professional’ membership can be acquired by anyone who holds a Bachelor of Architecture.
