Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) Shifaq Mufeed has resigned from the Commission on Thursday.

HRCM has confirmed Shifaq’s resignation to RaajjeMV, but refrained from commenting further on the matter.

While Shifaq resigned on Thursday, the Commission has been facing immense pressure from the public.

He was assigned to HRCM in June 2015, after scoring over 75 per cent in the selection process. His name was submitted to the Commission by President Abdulla Yameen. He won the seat for Fuvahmulah constituency under a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket, and later defected to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). He defected to Jumhooree Party in July 2013.
