Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim has been appointed to the vacant position at Judicial Services Commission (JSC).
Raajje.mv understands that he was appointed to the position on Wednesday; the decision had been confirmed by High Court as well.
Judge Rauf was appointed to the position, after an election within the High Court Judges. High Court Judge Abdullah Didi contested against Judge Rauf. Rauf won the vote by a margin of one vote, against Judge Didi’s three votes.
The appointment comes after the position in JSC had remained vacant for over seven months.
Previously, High Court was represented by Judge Abdullah Hameed. He was appointed to the position on 7th September 2011, his term had expired on September 7, 2016.
JSC laws dictate that a member must be appointed to the position within 30 days of the vacancy.
Abdul Rauf is a graduate of Malaysia’s International Islamic University. He had previously served as lawyer at Attorney General’s Office and Assistant Registrar of Civil Court. He was sworn in as a Judge at High Court on March 26, 2011.
