Maldives has confirmed the 21st Covid-19 fatality of the concluding month.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is an 87-year-old who was rushed to the health center of Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll.
The victim was pronounced dead at 5:40pm.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 297.
This comes just days after the last fatality was reported; a man, 78 years of age, who succumbed to complications of Covid-19 at 04:55pm on Friday.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 35; 14 victims were confirmed in January.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
