The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is seeking charges against the members of the Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC).

The case seeking corruption charges against four members of the MRDC board was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on Tuesday, over allegations of using their positions to gain undue benefit.

As such, then members Ibrahim Nazeem, Mohamed Riyaz, Ahmed Rasheed and Mohamed Ali Didi proved “beyond doubt” that the four had used their position to gain undue advantages for a specific party, in procuring a landing craft for the company.”

While MRDC has since been disbanded, the complaint against the members were submitted prior to this.

The complaint was submitted in October 2018, and a previous inquiry by then ACC members concluded that there was no proof to the allegations against the four.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, ACC said that the board members had amended the procurement agreement with Tropic Investment Private Limited, requiring to pay the company an advance payment of half the total cost of the landing craft, MVR 7,494,200.

It said that the investigation shows that there is no doubt that this was done with the intent of giving undue benefits to the company with whom they had made the agreement with.
