Maldives reports 54 new Covid-19 cases, 67 recoveries

Maldives reported 54 additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on Thursday.

Nightly statistics released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveal that 50 out of the 54 new cases were reported from the greater Malé region whereas four new cases were detected from residential islands.

The new cases include 30 Maldivians and 24 foreigners, revealed the public health authority.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 total case count has risen to 9,939.

Further, 67 additional recoveries from the virus have pushed the country’s total number of recoveries to 8,597.

While there were 93 patients hospitalized for treatment the previous day, the number dropped to 87 on Thursday. Out of the 1,301 active cases in the country, 645 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities, 11 patients less than the previous day.

Over the course of the past week, Maldives reported 445 infections, according to HPA.

Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll, where there are 11 active Covid-19 cases, remains under monitoring.

Further, HPA also revealed that there are active cases in 21 residential islands and 26 resorts with the inclusion of 14 tourists and 34 resort workers. There are a total of 40 active Covid-19 cases in residential islands, including 26 Maldivians and 14 foreigners.

The global pandemic has taken 34 lives in the island nation to date.
