Six terror suspects arrested from Maduvvari island in Raa atoll have been released.
The Criminal Court has confirmed this to RaajjeMV.
A search operation was launched in the island and seven others in December 2019, prompted by a child bride case. While the the 13-year-old has given birth since, the story emerged only after her rapist was violently attacked by his crew-mates on a sea-cucumber fishing boat over an ideological disagreement.
An operation was conducted on the island earlier this year as well, where more suspects were taken into police custody.
Those arrested early this year and subsequently charged are Hassan Raazee, Ibrahim Jihad, Hassan Siyadh, Adam Suhail and Ibrahim Shibunee.
While they are accused of supporting terror groups and spreading extremist ideologies, a hearing in the case was scheduled for Wednesday.
The virtual hearing was halted due to connection disruptions.
While one suspect, Raazee, was the only one among the six to still remain in police custody up until Wednesday’s hearing. While the others had been released prior, Raazee’s defence team sought the same treatment for him, which the court decided to allow.
RaajjeMV understands that they were released due to the long drawn-out remand period.
