A man has been arrested under suspicion of stabbing an individual near Thoiba Mosque in the Maldives capital, Malé City.

Arrested in connection to the stabbing was a 19-year-old Maldivian man.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) received reports of the assault at around 8:45pm on Wednesday upon which officers were dispatched to the scene.

The victim in the stabbing was rushed to the hospital, revealed police.

The suspect was arrested near the scene of the crime, however, further details have not been disclosed.

Police earlier revealed that further investigations into the stabbing, are underway.
