An intoxicated officer of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), has been arrested.

According to the police institution, the 33-year-old Maldivian man works as a police officer in an outlying island and was on vacation in Kaashidhoo island in Kaafu atoll.

The officer was taken into police custody from Kaashidhoo on Friday under suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics and officers found three rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics, from the man’s residence.

Upon conducting a urine test, the officer tested positive for the drug test.

Kaashidhoo Magistrate Court has since remanded the man by 10 days, at a facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Police have launched further investigations into the case.
