Immigration urges to report missing, run-away expats via e-mail, from Sunday

Maldives Immigration has revealed that they will be accepting application forms reporting missing or run-away expatriate workers, via e-mail from Sunday onward.

The department revealed that individuals are urged to submit application forms reporting expatriate workers who have been missing or are in hiding after fleeing from their supervisors, through e-mail starting July 12.

As such, individuals are urged to submit the application forms along with other relevant documents regarding the missing expatriate workers, to[email protected].

Relevant documents required to be submitted along with the forms include; ID card copies of applicant, proof that visa fees have been paid by the date the expatriate went missing, the agreement by the employer, a document proving the expatriate worker was paid by the date the person went missing as well as a receipt signed by the expatriate worker.

The immigration department has urged to report missing expatriates at a time the issue of an increased number of undocumented expatriate workers residing in the Maldives has been a matter of concern.

About 105,000 undocumented workers reside in the Maldives without the required work permits or even their passports.

The government launched a regularization programme for the large groups of undocumented expatriate workers in the country, during September 2019.

While thousands of undocumented expatriate workers registered, large groups of over thousand expatriate workers residing illegally in the Maldives, have since been sent back home.
