List of unreachable applicants, under the Hiyaa public housing project’s categories H4, H5, H6, H8 and H10, publicized

Authorities have on Tuesday, publicized the list of eligible candidates who applied for public housing under the ‘Hiyaa public housing project’, and were unreachable via telephone for the physical verification process to assess their living standards.

The President’s Office said that the list of unreachable applicants, under the Hiyaa public housing project’s categories H4, H5, H6, H8 and H10, was gazetted in a press release issued by the Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes.

Further noting that the physical verification process for categories H7 and H9 are currently underway, the committee said the list of unreachable eligible candidates for those categories will be publicized at a later date.

The committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes also emphasized that the publicized list is for the physical verification process of eligible candidates and is “not an exhaustive list of flat recipients”.

It appealed to all persons named in the list to fill in the required form which is to be submitted 3pm on July 14.

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam gave a press conference earlier this week, regarding the incumbent administration's housing policy.

Speaking there, the minister revealed that the physical verification process is to be completed by the end of July and that the complete list of eligible candidates will likely be completed by September.

He added that the Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes had only been able to contact 40 percent of the applicants, at the time of the press conference.

The 16-tower ‘Hiyaa’ project was handed to China State Construction Engineering Corporation on 20th July 2016, by the previous administration. A total of 7,000 flats were to be built, on a loan of USD 434 million. This is an average of USD 62,000 per flat.

While the work on the project commenced in December 2017.

The ‘Hiyaa’ project was marketed and initially launched to provide 7,000 housing units being developed at the reclaimed ‘Phase 2’ area in Hulhumalé, the capital city’s urban extension. While this has since been reduced to 6,720 flats, HDC had said that the reason for this is because of the decision to set up commercial areas on the ground floor of each tower.
