Covid-19: Maldives reports 23 new cases, 64 recoveries

Maldives has reported 23 new Covid-19 cases as well as 64 recoveries, on Monday.

The new cases announced on Monday include 16 locals and seven Bangladeshi nationals.

While this brings the country’s total Covid-19 case count to 2,491, 51.59 percent is Bangladeshis while 892 (35.81 percent) of the cases are locals.

Further, with the additional 64 recoveries, the total recoveries has reached 2,113.

And while the country has reported 12 deaths to Covid-19 with two reported in the last two days, there are currently 361 active cases.

19 patients are currently admitted at hospital; 18 are being treated at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility while one is admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital.

At the daily Covid-19 press conference held on Monday night, officials revealed the increase in cases with no links to previously confirmed cases.

Following the increase in confirmed cases and deaths, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on the government to reintroduce “stringent” measures in the fight against Covid-19.
