Over 20,000 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, have been conducted at the National Reference Laboratory of state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
In a tweet posted on Monday, the hospital noted that the team of laboratory technicians have shown unwavering commitment from “multiple tasks” to be completed for every single test to the “timely provision” of the test results.
The hospital expressed gratitude to the dedicated team for their resolution and commitment to their work.
An average of 600 – 700 Covid-19 tests are carried out at the laboratory in IGMH on a daily basis.
Earlier, the Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen had revealed that Maldives has the capacity to conduct up to 1,100 tests per day, at the three laboratories stationed across the Maldives capital; IGMH, the forensic laboratory at Maldives Police Service (MPS) and ADK Hospital.
According to the minister, the capacity will be strengthened further after observing the lockdown easing process, in effect since Friday.
