Monitoring status has been lifted from Narudhoo island in Shaviyani atoll, over a month after the measures were put in place.

The island was placed under monitoring on April 25, following the confirmation of a Covid-19 case on the island.

The individual that tested positive from Narudhoo is the captain of a boat, who took 98 passengers to 13 islands in the north.

10 others from the island had tested positive for the virus, hence the restrictive measures on the island remained. Six of the patients have since recovered.

Over 80 random samples were taken from the island for Covid-19 testing, and all had come back negative.

About 648 people reside on Narudhoo island.

While authorities have begun allowing congregational prayers in islands with no Covid-19 restrictive measures, islands where monitoring status have been lifted will only be allowed to do so 14 days after the measures are removed.
