Naifaru constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam has requested a parliamentary review over three sudden deaths, due to possible negligence.

The MP seeks a review over the deaths of two unborn babies as well as the death of four-month-old in the capital’s ADK Hospital.

An unborn baby died in Thoddoo island of Alif Alif atoll on May 14. According to reports, the proper care was not available on the island and there was a delay in providing the required approval for the woman to travel to Alif Alif atoll Hospital in Rasdhoo island.

The second incident occurred on May 25, after a pregnant woman from Narudhoo island in Shaviyani atoll was denied approval to travel to the Shaviyani atoll hospital in Funadhoo island due to it being developed into a Covid-19 treatment facility. However, she was referred to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital in Haa Dhaal atoll.

The death at ADK Hospital took place on May 22. While the family of the four-month-old has accused the hospital of negligence, ADK has denied this. The hospital is conducting an investigation over the matter.
