Second samples from all Covid-19 patients from Manadhoo island Noonu atoll have tested negative.

The island’s council president confirmed this to RaajjeTV, during an interview on its Covid-19 coverage on Sunday night.

While nine people tested positive from the island, he said that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has since informed them that the second samples had tested negative.

The nine were tested during contact tracing, after an elderly woman from the island tested positive for the virus.

She was tested after being transferred to the state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) from the Noonu atoll hospital in Manadhoo island earlier this month. She had consulted there for other health issues and had not exhibited any Covid-19 like symptoms, but doctors at IGMH ran tests as per procedure.

While she had recovered from the virus, she passed away on May 21.

Maldives has seen a total of 1,371 Covid-19 cases thus far, there have been 144 recoveries.
