Foreign minister Shahid sent a condolence message to his Pakistani counterpart

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has sent a condolence message to his Pakistani counterpart, Makhdoom Shah Qureshi, following the plane crash in its capital.

Minister Shahid said that he received the news of the crash “with deep shock and sorrow”.

“During this time of national, distress, the Government and the people of Maldives extend our profound condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Pakistan”

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 crashed, with at least 91 passengers, into a residential neighbourhood while on approach to the airport in the southern Pakistani city on Friday. At least 85 people have been killed in the crash.

Two people from the aircraft survived the impact, according to officials, and some people who were on the ground when the airliner crashed into houses in the densely populated neighbourhood had sustained injuries.
