The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has stated that a decision to extend the State of Health Emergency will be finalized on Thursday.

The Maldives declared a 30-day state of health emergency on March 12th. During Wednesday night's press briefing, spokesperson for the government's Covid-19 taskforce Mohamed Mabrook Aziz disclosed that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) is looking into whether or not the state of health emergency needs to be extended. He added that a final decision will be announced during Thursday night's press briefing.

The state of health emergency was declared by the Director-General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru under the powers granted to her by article 33 of the public health act. The emergency was imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the Maldives.

There are a total of 19 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Maldives, out of which 13 have recovered. Four are receiving treatment in the country whereas results of the remaining two cases had returned after they had departed the country.
