Covid-19: Government holidays extended for another week

Government offices, schools and educational institutions across the Maldives will be closed for an additional week

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to extend the closure of all government offices, schools, colleges and universities for another week.

According to a press release by the President's Office, the president made the decision as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19 in the country, based on the recommendations of the National Emergency Operations Centre's Technical Advisory Group (TAG).

As such, government offices, schools and educational institutions across the Maldives will be closed for the fourth week in a row.

Despite government offices being shut down for the upcoming week, arrangements will be made for essential employees to work from home and to offer as many services as possible via online platforms.

If opening the office is absolutely required, offices are instructed to operate with the minimum number of employees as possible.

The President appeals for all citizens to not go outside unless absolutely necessary, as it is the most important step to curb the spread of the disease.

Government offices have been closed since 19 March.
