189 Maldivians that were evacuated from Cochin, India, have been quarantined upon return.

This was revealed by the government's Covid-19 spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, at Tuesday's press conference.

As such, Mabrook revealed that the 189 individuals were evacuated from Cochin through a Maldivian airlines flight chartered for the evacuation of Maldivians stranded in the neighboring country.

They are all quarantined at Olhuveli Beach and Spa Maldives.

Further, he noted that these Maldivians are those who have been stranded in India after traveling there on leisure or medical trips, as well as those stranded their after the cancellation of scheduled flights. Most of the Maldivians who traveled to foreign countries for these purposes have been expressing concern as they did not have sufficient funds to remain in the countries during the pandemic.

Authorities are working to evacuate large groups of Maldivians stranded in several countries through chartered flights and all of the arrivals will be quarantined as per protocol.

Also at the press, Mabrook revealed that 2,010 samples have been taken thus far, out of which 1,911 tested negative and results of 80 samples are pending.

Over 6,000 individuals have consulted at the various flu clinics established by the authorities.

In addition, Mabrook revealed that 857 individuals have registered at the job center established by the government for those who have lost their jobs due to the closing down of several companies as a result of the pandemic.
