Both the Athletics Association of Maldives and the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) have put a halt to their regularly scheduled activities with the discovery of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the country.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, FAM's Secretary-General Hussain Jawaz stated that the association has temporarily halted all activities and Youth Development Programs (YDP). Nevertheless, all tournaments will go on as scheduled, said Jawa, adding that this decision may change according to the Health Protection Agency's (HPA) recommendations.

Moreover, Jawa stated that all academies have also been advised to do the same but that the decision has been left to the club's discretion.

Additionally, the Athletics Association of Maldives has also taken precautionary measures due to COVID-19. The association has temporarily halted all activities across the country from Saturday onwards. They have also instructed all athletics clubs to do the same. Further, the association has determined not to send any members abroad to tournaments or training scheduled until April 2020.

So far, two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the country; they were both staffs at Kurehdhoo Island Resort. The resort was put under lockdown after the two staffs tested positive for the infection. While a yellow alert has been raised across the country, Kurehdhoo Island has been raised to orange alert.

The COVID-19 has caused many sporting events across the world being postponed with the most recent one being the 2020 Summer Olympics set to be hosted by Japan, while UEFA Euro 2020 is in danger of cancellation as well.
