The deadline to contest for women's development committees in the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) primaries has been extended.
According to a press statement released by MDP, the deadline to submit applications to contest for women's development committees (WDC) in MDP's primaries has been extended to 22:00 of February 2nd.
MDP stated that the application forms will be available from the party's website and that the application must be submitted with an ID card copy to either the 2nd floor of MDP's secretariat or via email.
The Decentralization Act was recently amended with provisions to allocate 33 per cent of local council seats for women. The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) revealed that a total of 929 seats will be available on women's development committees. This is the first time elections for women's development committees are being held under the supervision of the Election Commission.
