LCE2020: MDP's Addu Council Workshop begins

The seminar is ongoing in Sharafudheen School, Hithadhoo district of Addu City

Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has begun a council workshop in southernmost Addu City in connection to the upcoming Local Council Elections.

The workshop began at 10am on Saturday and is proceeding at Sharafudheen School in Hithadhoo district until Saturday evening. Parliament Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed inaugurated the seminar.

Having begun with a video presentation of the recently concluded Northern Conference in Kulhudhuffushi island, participants of the seminar will be provided a variety of different information. This includes information on amendments made to the law on decentralizing administrative divisions and how they are ex[expected to empower cities.

Further, information was also provided on development projects planned within the scope of the state budget 2020 for Addu City as well as funds allocated for the city this year. Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb is set to extend information regarding the budget.

A working session began in the afternoon, where participants were divided into groups which are set to complete a summary of visions for the city’s development.

The workshop will see discussions mainly revolving around information collected through the party’s door-to-door campaigns carried out since having arrived in the island under the “Agenda 19 to islands” slogan.

The Local Council Elections are slated for 4 April 2020.
