Another case of a minor falling victim to sexual assault has surfaced from a north-central island.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that their North Central Police Division received the report of a 14-year-old girl falling victim to “gang rape” a little past 8pm on 22 January.
Atolls included in the north-central division are Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaal and Vaavu atolls.
Officers arrested a 21-year-old, 14-year-old, 19-year-old and an 18-year-old the same day the case was reported to them on 23 January.
MPS earlier revealed that they investigate such cases as “serious crimes”.
Ever since the disturbing news of a two-year-old being sexually assaulted by close family members made the spotlight in early January, several such cases have been unfolding.
This had resulted in public outcry across the entire nation, and the people have since been calling for justice and swift action against perpetrators.
