Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has announced that the party is open for submissions from individuals interested in contesting the Local Council Elections 2020 on the party's ticket.
MRM announced that they are accepting submissions from those interested in contesting the upcoming Local Council Elections as the party's candidate.
As such, in order to become the party's candidate, interested parties are instructed to text their full name, ID card number, and the council the individual is contesting for to 7563664 before 16:00 of 25th January 2020.
They added that the aforementioned phone number can also be contacted for further clarification.
As the Local Council Elections has been scheduled for April 4th 2020, campaigns for the elections have already been launched, especially via social media.
This is the first election held after amendments to the decentralization of administrative divisions were passed.
The main changes to the law include increasing the term for councillors to five years, reserving 33% of seats for women, and giving councils the authority to operate businesses under the council's name.
