Maafaru International Airport will soon be launching sea-plane operations says, the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services (IAS) Ltd., Mohamed Rizvi.

Speaking to the press after the opening ceremony of Maafaru International Airport on December 1, Rizvi announced that preparations are ongoing to launch sea-plane operations at the airport.

Additionally, he stated that work will also begin on establishing training facilities such as a pilot school and an engineering MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) facility at the airport.

Rizvi further disclosed that they have received requests to land private jets at the airport since it was officially opened.

The airports officially operations began on the morning of December 1, and the commercial operations were officially launched at a ceremony held in the evening.

Maldivian, the country’s national airline, announced one-way ticket fares to Maafaru on Saturday; which begins at MVR 750.

Funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD, the airport development was contracted to Tuff Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.

While the airport is 2,200 metres long and 40 metres wide, it has the facilities to cater the A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

The airport will be managed and maintained by Maldivian.
