The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, has met with the Minister of Endowment and Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, Ahmed Toufiq.

The meeting was held on Thursday, at the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs of Morocco.

At the meeting, Minister Shahid noted the historical and religious link between the two countries, referring to the role of the Moroccan-born visitor Abu al-Barakat Yusuf al-Barbari in the Maldives' conversion to Islam.

Discussions between the two leaders touched on strategies and mutual efforts to revive Islamic heritage and on the possibility of training Maldivian Imams at Moroccan Institutes.

Additionally, Minister Shahid commended Morocco’s endeavors in advocating a tolerant and balanced form of Islam.

In addition to Minister Shahid, the Maldivian delegation was represented by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to UAE, Dr. Hussain Niyaaz, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Shiaan and Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Moomina Ibrahim.

The minister is slated to meet his counterpart, His Excellency Nasser Bourita, and other senior officials during the visit.

This trip is the first visit by a Maldives Foreign Minister to the Kingdom of Morocco.
