Supreme Court Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi has refused to accpet the suspension handed to him by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

JSC suspended the chief justice as well as Justice Adam Mohamed Abdulla on Wednesday.

Following his suspension, Dr. Abdulla released a statement claiming that the JSC is inventing disciplinary issues to investigate the supreme court justices in order to intimidate judges and that such intimidation tactics have been continuously used on more than one occasion.

He further stated that the JSC is infringing on the supreme court's authority as the final say in the judicial system.

According to the chief justice, his suspension by the JSC is unconstitutional and therefore, he refuses to recognize it.

The People's Majlis was presented with the motion to dismiss both justices on Thursday, and its judiciary has since met and approved JSC's decision.

JSC made the decision to remove the two justices at a meeting on Wednesday, after completing investigations into disciplinary issues against the justices.

As such, the commission said that the investigation into the respective complaints against the justices showed that their actions were against the judges’ code of conduct, and against Article 154 (b) of the Constitution.
