President Solih forwarded the names of seven individuals for parliamentary approval on Wednesday

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s appointees to the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has been forwarded to the parliament’s committee on state owned enterprises.

The names were forwarded to parliament on Wednesday.

The seven names are, Hassan Waheed, Asim Mohamed, Aishath Shazly, Rushaha Ahmed Shareef, Ali Shafeeu, Ali Shujau and Ahmed Shareef Yoosuf.

While President Solih made the appointments back in September the Privatisation and Corporatization Act states that the parliament's approval must be sought before members are appointed to the board.

PCB's President Mohamed Nizar resigned in August this year.

The PCB is a seven-member board tasked with monitoring public enterprises, public corporations and companies with government shares. It also oversees the privatization of public enterprises and the Public Enterprises Monitoring and Evaluation Division plays the role of the Secretariat of PCB.

The board was established under the ‘Law of privatisation, corporatisation, monitoring and Evaluation of Government businesses’ in 2013.

While members have been appointed to the board twice, the committee on state owned enterprises counseled to re-appoint members as they were originally appointed without the required parliament approval, in a report submitted to the parliament floor this August.

This report also noted those previously appointed to the board had failed to fulfill their responsibilities, and the parliament approved the re-establishment of the PCB.
