The People’s Majlis has on Thursday passed two bills related to children’s rights.

While two separate votes were taken at the sitting, 66 lawmakers voted to pass both bills; the Child Rights Protection Bill and the Juvenile Justice Bill.

Both bills were forwarded to the parliament by the President’s Office, this August. They were forwarded to the human rights and gender committee for further review.

Reading its report on Thursday, committee chair and Hinnavaru constituency MP Jeehaan Mahmood noted both bills were forwarded following an issue noted during an investigation by the committee, regarding children being groomed by gangs.
