The 19th Parliament Committee on Human Rights and Gender Committee has stated the 2020 state budget allocated for the mandates for the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has “great prospects”.
While speaking at Tuesday’s committee meeting, MP for Hinnvaru and committee chairperson Jeehan Mahmood stated that the 2020 state budget has allocated a proper budget for policies relevant to the gender ministry and that the budget has “great prospects”.
Likewise, the previously under-funded children’s shelter, orphanage and the Home for People with Special Needs has received adequate funding for next year, highlighted Jeehan.
Additionally, Jeehan highlighted the increase in funding for the National Drug Agency from 66 million to 95 million.
She further noted the 36 million invested in “therapeutic” treatments for disabled persons in contrast to the complete lack of funding in the area for the past two years.
Discussions during the meeting touched on how to provide these services for free and in an accessible manner in co-operation with officials from Aasandha and National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
