Football superstar Ali “Dhagandey” Ashfaq has appealed for the public’s support, in the two matches in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers that are to be held in the Maldives.

Ashfaq made the appeal via Twitter, as the national team prepares for two home matches this month.

The Maldives team will play against Philippines on November 14, while a match against Guam is set for the 19th; both matches will be held at the National Football Stadium in the capital.

In his tweet, Ashfaq asked the public to come out in support of the team “in the matches held in our own nation.”

Chair of the national team committee, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed assured to “do everything necessary” to ensure that supporters fill up the stadium for both matches.

Maldives in Group A, with China, Guam, Syria and Philippines.

The Maldivian team has played three matches in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers; the team lost the away match against Syria with a 2-1 score, as well as its home game against China with a 5-0 score. However, it won the away game against Guam, with a 1-0 score.

Syria is currently in the top spot of the table with nine points, while China is in second with seven points. Philippines has four points and is in third, while Maldives and Guam are in fourth and fifth places with three and zero points respectively.
