This is the first ever tournament hosted by the Powerboat Association of Maldives

Powerboat Association of Maldives is set to host the first-ever powerboating tournament in the Maldives, this November.

Dubbed the Maldives International Trophy, the tournament will take place from 28 November to 5 December.

Powerboat Association of Maldives became a partner of the International Powerboating Union or Union internationale motonautique (UIM), the global main hub of the sport, at the 92nd General Assembly of U.I.M held in China this month.

The tournament will proceed in either Villimalé or Maafushi and foreign athletes are set to participate in the newly introduced tournament.

Invitations to participate in the competition have been extended to athletes from seven countries across the globe.

Categories in the competition include Thundercat P750 racing, revealed the association which went on to add that they are currently undertaking security preparations as the sport requires several security measures.

The aim of the tournament is to promote the sports sector across the nation, said the association.

Maldives is one of the most adequate spots to hold the tournament given its infinite oceans and the tournament is endorsed by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment as well as the Ministry of Tourism.
