Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid is in Bangkok, Thailand on a three-day official visit.
The minister traveled to Thailand following an invitation from his counterpart there, Don Pramudwinai.
Both ministers will be holding bilateral talks during this trip, “on strengthening and further expanding the bilateral cooperation between the and two countries.”
Minister Shahid will also reaffirm Maldives’ commitment to strengthen the strong economic synergies between the two countries, as well.
In addition, Shahid will also host an official reception to mark the opening of the Embassy of Maldives in Thailand.
The foreign ministry noted that the opening of the embassy will bring in “a new chapter” in the bilateral relations between Maldives and Thailand.
The new embassy will “promote the Maldives’ socio-economic and commercial interests, the export of Maldivian products and services” and assist both countries’ businessmen, workers and investors.
This year marks 40 years since diplomatic ties were established between Maldives and Thailand; which was established on 21st June 1979.
