Vice President Faisal Naseem has launched Fannu Expo 2019, the national arts and crafts exhibition organised by the Ministry of Economic Development.

The launching ceremony was held on Monday night at the National Art Gallery.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Faisal Naseem urged every citizen to contribute to the promotion of Maldivian workmanship.

Highlighting the rich culture and traditions of the Maldives, the Vice President emphasised the creativity and vibrant workmanship observed from all across the country. Pondering on the reasons behind a lack of efforts to promote such work, the Vice President noted the administration’s efforts to encourage such talent, which he said demonstrates the Maldivian national identity in the international stage. He further emphasised the importance of cultivating such skills through the education system.

Speaking about the role of the youth in this endeavor, he called on the youth to be diligent and to work to become self-sufficient and contribute to economic development. He further urged the youth, especially women entrepreneurs, to realise the full potential of Fannu Expo and other such opportunities.

The President’s Office has stated that the five-day exhibition will be held from November 22 to 28 in Dharubaaruge, Kalaafaanu School and the Children’s Park and is expected to attract over 15,000 visitors.

It will act as a venue to showcase and market creative arts and craftsmanship and will feature hundreds of stalls exhibiting items in 77 different categories including handicraft, fisheries, transportation, culinary arts, literature, fashion and design, and information technology.
