Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed has received the Pen of Honour for journalism.
Nasheed won the honour at the Journalism Awards 2018 event held on Sunday night by the Maldives Media Council.
However, since Nasheed is on an official trip, he will receive his award at a later time.
Ahmed Abdulla, Mohamed Waheed, and Ibrahim Umar Manik also received the Pen of Honour. Vice President Faisal Naseem was the guest of honour and gave the winners their awards at the event.
Nasheed was a prominent journalist during who had contributed to Hukuru and Sangu newspapers and later founded the Minivan newspaper. He was repeatedly prosecuted and jailed for his work during President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s rule.
